MESSAGES

STANLEY TUNMORE.. My Uncle died recently and I found a small booklet headed Nominal List of all those onboard H.M.S Vanguard During the Royal Cruise to South Africa 1947. Stanley Tunmore was rated as O.D the list is comprehensive naming the full ships Crew (see photo right). Stan was 75 in November.

NORMAN UNDERHILL.. I would like information about my father Norman from West Bromwich while he served on the Vanguard. I know he was on board when the ships had royal visitors 1945-48. One of his duties was to clean the inside of the gun barrels by crawling down them tied by a rope.

SIDNEY JOHN PURKISS.. I am looking for information about my father while he was serving aboard the HMS Vanguard in the 1940-1950s.

WILLIAM CHARLES STANTON.. Seeking information from anyone who may remember my dad William Stanton who served on the Vanguard late 1940's early 1950's. He trained as an electrician. He was from Walsall and also served on HMS Nigeria and finally on HMS Unicorn. He passed away in 1999 and I am trying to put as much as I can in family history about him for my grandchildren to remember him.

DENNIS KNIGHT.. I would like more information about my uncle Dennis Knight who served on HMS Vanguard. I would like to hear from anyone who may have known him or have photographs.

LES SIGGERY   I am looking for information on my father's naval career and his friends in the navy. During the war he served on HMS Rodney, and after he served on HMS vanguard, I think as a Chief Petty Officer. If you can help with information I would be very grateful.

ARTIST
Featured Artist - Ivan Berryman

Art and aviation have been like a brother and sister to me. We have grown up together, learned together and made our adult lives together. But you do not have to have an appreciation of aircraft to admire the graceful lines of a Spitfire or the functional simplicity of a Focke-Wulf 190. They are themselves a work of art and they cry out to be painted - not as machines of war and destruction, but as objects of beauty, born of necessity and function, yet given a life and iconic classicism beyond their original calling. My interest and love of art and aircraft was gifted to me by my father, a designer and aeronautical engineer of considerable repute. Denis Berryman C.Eng. FRAeS. He gave me his eyes, his passion, his dedication and his unwavering professionalism. I owe him everything. And I miss him terribly. A love of art and of beautiful and interesting things takes you on a journey. You discover new interests, new fascinations, and you want to paint them. You want to paint them in their environment, in their element. Whether it is an aeroplane, a warship, a racing car or a beautiful woman, their gift to an artist is the same: Their lines, their texture and the way that light and shadows give them form. These are the food and oxygen of an artist. Not the paint and the canvas. These are mere tools. The secret is in the passion and the perception.
