A native of the Outer Banks of North Carolina in the Southeast United States, Robert has a strong connection to the sea and the maritime history that goes with it. His family goes a long way back with origins in England, his grandfather being a particularly able sailor of his own craft as well as a master shipwright. Robert has been able to draw upon his family background and his life by the sea with an almost scholarly approach to all his pieces, aiming for the most exacting historical accuracy while never losing sight of bringing the viewer into the drama of the event. Robert received his formal art school training and a degree from East Carolina University School of Art and divides his professional endeavours between working an art director for a leading East Coast ad agency and devoting himself to building his portfolio of maritime art. His work has been published and hangs in galleries as well as private collections.
