INFORMATION ABOUT THE CLIPPED SIGNATURES SUPPLIED WITH THIS ITEM

This item is supplied with 'clipped' signatures.

Where you see the name of the signatures with the word '(clipped)' next to it, this signature is supplied separately from the item.

These clipped signatures are usually sourced from other prints which have become damaged but the signatures remain unaffected. Sometimes, rarer signatures have been collected in person either by Cranston Fine Arts or militaria dealers and collectors we work with.

In the past, we mounted these signatures with prints and drawings ourselves to send to customers, but it is significantly better value to send everything unmounted for you to get matted and framed the way you want it - saving you money on shipping costs.

Here you can see some examples of how the clipped signatures are sent out (usually on A6 size cards) with brief details of the signature. Also, we show a couple of examples of how prints and drawings can be matted together with these signatures.

Matrosen Obgefreiter Wilhelm Alsen (deceased)
*Signature Value : £35 (clipped)

Willi Alsen joined the Kriegsmarine on 1 October 1940, his first ship was the cruiser Koln. On 1 March 1941 he was posted to join the battleship Scharnhorst and as a Seaman 1st class he was one of the ship's starboard gunners, serving a 2cm four-barrel anti-aircraft gun. He was also trained as an aircraft recognition specialist. During his service he was awarded the Iron Cross II class. Willi Alsen was the last of the thirty-six men who survived the sinking of the Scharnhorst to be rescued. He served the remainder of the war as a Prisoner of War. Any photos of him signing our prints etc were taken in April 2010 during a signing session when a representative of Cranston Fine Arts went to meet him. Alsen died on 22nd July 2012.
