![]() ![]() Vice Admiral Sir John Hayes KCB OBE (deceased) *Signature Value : £40 | John Hayes was born on 9th May 1913. He was educated at the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth and entered the Royal Navy in 1927. He seved throughout World War Two at sea. He saw action in the Atlantic, on the Russian Convoys, in the Mediterranean and in the Far East. His post war appointments include : Naval Secretary 1962-64; Flag Officer, Flotillas, Home Fleet 1964-66; Flag Officer, Scotland and Northern Ireland 1966-68. He was made an OBE in 1945, appointed CB in 1964 and KCB in 1967. He retired from the Royal Navy in 1968. He was Chairman of the Cromarty Firth Port Authority 1974-77; Lord Lieutenant of Ross and Cromarty, Skye and Lochalsh 1977-88; Member of the Queen's Bodyguard for Scotland (Royal Company of Archers) 1969; President of the Scottish Council, King George's Fund for Sailors 1968-78. He died on 7th September 1998. |
