Henry Kitchener, 3rd Earl Kitchener
The great nephew of Lord Kitchener of Khartoum famed during World War One, he succeeded his grandfather as Earl Kitchener who had himself inherited the title from his younger brother on his death in 1916. Henry Kitchener, the 3rd Earl, served in the Royal Corps of Signals, retiring with the rank of Major. He was also a qualified physicist and worked for some time with the company ICI. With his hereditary peerage, he took his place in the House of Lords in 1942, making his first speech more than 40 years later. He died on 16th December 2011.
