Captain Sir Aubrey St Clair-Ford DSO

After attending the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, by 1942 he was in command of the destroyer HMS Kipling. On 23rd May 1941, HMS Kipling came to the rescue of 279 crew of HMS Kelly and HMS Kashmir - they had been sunk by dive bombers off the coast of Crete. A year later on 11th May 1942, HMS Kipling and HMS Lively were attacked and sunk by Ju88 bombers to the north west of Egypt, and HMS Jackal was badly damaged. 221 were rescued of the crew of 250 of HMS Kipling. Captain St Clair-Ford also fought in the Korean War. He died on 8th April 1991.

Captain of HMS Kipling. Rescued 279 crew of HMS Kelly and HMS Kashmir off Crete in May 1941. HMS Kipling was sunk in May 1942 with 221 survivors from the 250 crew. Awarded the Distinguished Service Order, he also served in the Korean War. He died in 1991.
